The Nathaniel H. & Fanny Stricks Jackson Religious School (located in the Sachs Family Educational Center ) offers religious instruction with individualized attention to children in kindergarten through seventh grade. We view our task as working with your entire family to help your children lead more meaningful Jewish lives. Our school is committed to providing your children with a strong sense of their Jewish integrity, self-esteem and confidence, based on a vast knowledge of Jewish tradition and prayer. We believe that our students’ Jewish education begins, not ends, when they leave our classroom. Rather, we prepare your children to continue practicing Jewish values and tradition in the home, and in their lives.

Our youngest students experience Judaism through an introduction to the basic symbols of the Jewish holidays and Bible stories. Some classes celebrate Shabbat each week, while others are busy creating the Hebrew letters using their bodies. Students are encouraged to be expressive; they obtain the knowledge and are able to experience their Judaism in the classroom. The primary goal of our Hebrew program is to teach our students to read the Siddur proficiently and to take on leadership roles in the service as a Shaliach Tzibur (“prayer facilitator”).

Because of our commitment to manageable class sizes, our teachers are better able to tailor class work based on the nature of each individual class. While all lessons are based on a specially crafted curriculum that emphasizes core Jewish teachings, our teachers will frequently adapt different methodologies – including reading, writing and dancing – to most effectively impart those lessons.

Junior Congregation
Sutton Place Synagogue offers 16 Junior Congregation services a year, for children enrolled in the Jackson Religious School. The program includes both Saturday morning services, as well as a monthly Simcha Service, all designed to increase our students’ fluency and comfort level with the Main Sanctuary service.

As part of our Junior Congregation, we divide children up based on age groups, where they then partake in age-appropriate activities ranging from studying the Shabbat prayers and service, to group discussions about Torah passages.

Junior Congregation will meet at 10:30 am on the following dates:

September 13, 2008
October 25, 2008
November 8 & 22, 2008

Tot Shabbat

Bringing your children to Tot Shabbat is a fantastic way to help them experience Shabbat in a lively and exciting environment with teacher Caryn Roman.

Tot Shabbat will meet at 10:30 am on the following dates:

September 13, 2008
October 25, 2008
November 8 & 22, 2008
